During the 1988 Campaign Nita Lowey perpetrated a smear campaign against candidate Joseph J. DioGuardi. Nita Lowey, however, was fined $3500.00 for not reporting $250,000.00 that she put into her own campaign, violating campaign finance requirements. The FEC charges can be read here from the FEC web site.
Inside City Hall Reporter: …but specifically, what she is raising is the $50,000.00 in illegal contributions from a contributor and that contributor’s employees. question
Joseph DioGuardi: Michael, Michael. The facts are none of that money was used in the 1988 campaign. It was all returned. I was not fined. I was not charged. Nita Lowey, who perpetrated a smear against me in the last 10 days, was fined $3500.00 for not reporting $250,000.00 that she put into her campaign but didn’t report on the 24-hour report. This is a political smear that you are picking up, how many years later now? Over 20-years later? Is she so desperate that she has to go back to that? When I wasn’t charged? When I wasn’t fined? And the only one fined was Nita Lowey. And all those contributions were returned. Why would that be brought up now?
You know something? There are people that are so disaffected, so disenfranchised, so angry, that they want to change the status quo. They want to press the reset-button and change albany.
